In addition to obtaining his professional architectural degree in 1978, Roberto completed his Master of Theological Studies degree from University of St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto in 1998, with a specialty in Theology and Ecology granted by the Elliott Allen Institute for Theology and Ecology at St. Michael’s. In 2003, he achieved LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Professional Accreditation. Having completed over 100 projects for parishes and religious communities in Southern Ontario, Roberto has developed significant expertise in liturgical design, facilitating the design process for sacred space, giving expression to theological imperatives within architectural form, and the integration of sustainable design principles for sacred space.

Roberto has been invited to write and speak extensively on the topics of Sustainable Design, Sacred Space, and the Cosmological Response to the Ecological Crisis as it relates to Architecture and Education at Universities, Colleges, religious conferences, architecture conferences, and professional organizations in Canada and the United States. Currently he also serves as ongoing guest faculty at the George Brown College School of Design’s Institute Without Boundaries, a multi-disciplinary graduate design program and research institute and was recently invested as a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

Over many years working in the architectural field, and as a founding principal in Larkin Architect Limited, John has acquired an intuitive understanding of building design and construction while working with designers, engineers, developers, contractors and architects. Through this experience comes the fundamental technical knowledge that is essential in the design and integration of environmental sustainability in all Larkin projects. Working with a variety of commissions within the firm over the past 30 years has provided the background to work effectively with individual clients and building committees to deliver projects that routinely meet or exceed expectations.

John has been actively involved in his professional organizations, having demonstrated a leadership role in developing and establishing the significant contribution of Architectural Technologists within the profession. In the past he has sat on the Board of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario and provided articles for their publication the ‘Cornerstone’.
